THE HISTORY OF MARTIN SUNDAY LIGHTING DESIGN

The story of Martin Sunday Lighting Design begins with our founder, Martin Sunday. During Martin's childhood, his fascination for the way that light landed on objects, i.e., sunlight off a lake, the light coming through tree branches or the way sunlight would beam through a cloud, drew him to develop a unique way of looking at light. He studied at the University of Michigan and then took his knowledge to Light Expressions in Los Angeles, CA in 1983, where he first began working in the field of lighting design. This was the beginning of an expansive career. His experiences in this field took him all across the country to work with other celebrated lighting designers, including John Case and Ken Paulsen.

Now, with over 30 years of experience, Martin works with residential and commercial clients all across Texas and the United States to help them with their lighting needs. Martin’s philosophy is that lighting should inspire and enhance the life that it illuminates. We carry this philosophy forward in all that we do. Contact us for beautiful, clear lighting solutions that enhance and highlight your project’s best features.

OUR VALUES

MISSION STATEMENT

We light up peoples' homes & lives through the artistic use of light technology.

HONESTY

Honesty and appreciation breeds trust. Appreciation nourishes the soul. Trust increases productivity. And when trust is high, it translates to lower costs and higher productivity.

QUALITY

We do not issue plans, fixture schedules, spec-books, invoices, or proposals without first being double checked by more than one set of eyes. All invoices & proposals need to be approved by a manager before being sent to the client.

PERSONAL GROWTH

Martin Sunday Lighting Design supports personal growth. We offer this by compensating for one program a year for all team members after 6 months of employment. A teaching piece is to be delivered at every Monday morning team meeting. This is open to all employees to offer a reading (does not have to be directly work related).

GRACE

Our process should flow with a sense of ease. If we are running into blocks - we need to re-evaluate and implement a solution-oriented plan. We have a commitment to a high level of integrity and to delivering sustainable results that benefit the community.

EMPOWERMENT

We empower our team members to be leaders within their own projects by utilizing trust, communication, and an open door policy.

CREATIVITY

Fear stops the flow of energy with everything from: creativity, money, connections, and trust. Therefore, we strive for a low fear / high creativity environment.
F.E.A.R. - False Events Appearing Real.

EXCELLENCE

We go above and beyond what is expected of us by our clients. We foster an environment of excellence, where our products and our services can shine.

INTEGRITY

15 minutes early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable. Arriving 15 minutes early can cultivate a sense of ease, which may even open the door to other opportunities. We focus on meeting our deadlines and staying in communication with our clients.

SOLUTION-ORIENTED

We realize that problems are inevitable, but we do not stay focused on them. We shift our focus to the solution.

MOTIVATION

Shame is not a productive motivator. It is to be avoided at all costs. There are better ways to motivate people. We strive to motivate through empowerment.

RESPONSIBILITY

We work to create a safer, more productive, higher performing, just and diverse work environment. We strive to focus on long term results and see beyond just our own team. We never say, "that's not my job."

COACHING

We recognize talent and work to develop it in our partners.
